Ray Elgy
Percussion (Kit)

What year did you join Littleport?

2021

When did you start playing and on what instrument?

I started at the age of 11 in 1972, playing percussion in the school’s brass band (Cray Valley Technical High School in Sidcup).

Who was your inspiration when you started playing?

In my first drum lessons I was introduced to Buddy Rich’s “Snare drum rudiments” so that was an early influence. But my teenage years were influenced by the likes of Phil Collins, and Bill Bruford.

Why do you enjoy playing at Littleport?

I’m impressed by the dedication that everyone has to play to the best of their ability. It’s a great motivator to do better yourself.

What would you like to achieve with Littleport?

To see the band rise through the ranks and realise its true potential.

What secret conspiracy would you like to start?

None. I believe conspiracy theorists could achieve more directing their time and energy elsewhere.

How do you feel about putting pineapple on pizza?

It takes up space that could be better used for pepperoni.

What kind of secret society would you like to start?

I can’t tell you which one I’d like to start, that would defeat the object. But I’d like to join the Top Secret Drum Corps. They're amazing.
