When did you join Littleport Band?

After doing some depping in Spring and Summer 2022, I joined the band officially in September 2022 when the second horn seat became vacant.

 

When did you start playing and on what instrument?

I began playing cornet at Chatteris Band when I was about 9 or 10, and played cornet for years before making the switch to horn when I was about 22 and started playing a little bit again after a few years out living in Australia and studying in London.

 

Who was your inspiration when you started playing?

I’ve always been inspired by my Nanna who is a church organist and sings in a choir, a talent passed down to her father who was the organist at Wesley Church, Cambridge. My main reason for starting to play, though, was that I was jealous of my older brother who started at Chatteris Junior Band on cornet. I thought I could do a better job than him! (He’s a drummer now).

 

Why do you enjoy playing at Littleport?

The band has been so welcoming and friendly, and everyone shares a love for music. I feel especially supported by my section #TeamHorn. Everyone works hard in the band room, and the social side of the band is great fun too.

 

What has been your most enjoyable moment so far with Littleport in terms of music performed, social events, contests or concerts?

The Ely Cathedral community carols was such a fun gig to be involved in (if a little chilly), and the Christmas concert was great fun too!

 

What would you like to achieve with Littleport in the future?

Mainly, I think we all share the same goal of improving our sound and challenging ourselves with new music. Personally, I’d like to make improvements in my own sound and really improve my confidence when it comes to playing.

 

Away from Littleport what else do you like to do?

I am currently training for my second half marathon with aspirations to one day run an ultramarathon (don’t hold me to that), so I usually run every other day and am also part of Ely Runners. I also love to read, travel, crochet and drink copious amounts of coffee.
